- Drain Choke / Floor Trap Choke
- Clogged Kitchen Sink / Toilet Wash Sink
Drain Choke / Floor Trap Choke
Clogged drain pipes usually come from other problems such as drain choke and floor trap choke, whereby floor traps are filled with dirt and residue, hence water is unable to be cleared properly. Signs of clogged drain pipes are noticeable. You will see signals such as water backing up, flooding, slow draining and low pressure.
To make it simple, you can prepare a homemade solution of vinegar, baking soda and lemon which will act as a dissolvent of dirt and residue. Pour it down the trap, followed by 4 tablespoons of baking soda and leave it for 5 minutes, then pour in another cup of vinegar and a cup of boiling water. Leave it for 10 minutes. This method works sometimes. If it does not, the next approach to use is a plunger. If a plunger is not helping, another easily accessible tool is a plumbing snake. It is a long and flexible metal cable with a small, uncoiled spring on one end and a handle on the other. A plumbing snake works by physically entering the drain, then contact with the blockage and clear away the obstruction directly. However, generally, if the accumulated dirt is too huge or too deep or has been there for too long, using the above solutions won’t work. You will have to look for a professional plumber for assistance.
Clogged Kitchen Sink / Toilet wash sink
There are two types of clogged sinks which are kitchen sink and toilet sink respectively. Both sink types are usually clogged for different reasons. Having a choked sink is one of the most common residential plumbing emergencies. If you are unable to clear the choke by yourself, you might want to call an emergency plumber to help you quickly resolve the plumbing issue.
- Kitchen sink
Food and grease are the top reasons why a kitchen sink chokes. Instead of washing down food debris in your sink, dispose of it as much as possible into the trash bin directly. Even though we usually have bottle traps to catch large particles, over time, the small food debris will still accumulate and cause a clogged kitchen sink.
Grease is more stubborn than food debris when it comes to choke issues. Oily liquids will solidify when it is cool. Over time, it will develop a sticky build-up in the pipes that collect other debris washed down the pipe, such as food waste, dirt and more. Many will try to solve it by pouring chemicals into the pipe, however, it does not always work. If we keep on pouring leftover oil or oily food into the basin, choking will easily come back again.
- Toilet wash sink
The biggest reason for toilet sink chokes, or water draining too slowly in a wash basin, is an accumulation of hairs, which may be already trapped over a certain period. Hairs are easily trapped as men used to shave in front of the basin. Other common culprits can be tissue paper, cotton balls and even contact lenses.
A little tip for you. When shaving over the sink, or trying to wash hairball down the sink, remember to remove the hairs from flowing down through the sink by placing a bottle trap. We can’t help that hair comes out of our heads naturally, but we can try to protect the drain as much as possible with small good practices, such as sweeping hair out of sinks and cleaning the hair brushes over the trash can.

Reasons of Pipe Leak
- Foundation shifts occurs overtime. A tiny shift in your home’s foundation may create big adjustments in your water lines, causing them to disconnect or rupture.
- High water pressure which leads to damaging wear and tear on your pipes. pipes can only withstand a certain amount of water pressure. When the water pressure is too much for your pipes to bear, it breaks the pipe eventually resulting in leaks.
- Corrosion happens on certain pipe materials or when corrosive materials pass through the draining system. Besides, over time, your pipes will age and corrosive substances such as rust will form throughout your plumbing system. Corrosion will eventually break down the pipe. If any discolouration or unusual changes are spotted around the pipes, it also indicates that corrosion has taken place.
- Damaged pipe joints, whereby the weakest link would be around the connecting joints of the pipes. Joints consist of separate curved pieces attaching to straight pipes on either side and are responsible for redirecting water throughout your home. Over time, excess water pressure can be hard on pipe joints causing them to deteriorate. If pipe points are making a ticking or banging noise, chances are that you’re experiencing faulty joint issues.
- Loose water connectors are due to the shifting or movement. Occasionally, hoses and pipes that supply water to your appliances become loose. As an example, your washing machine hose may spring a leak due to shaking during the spin cycle. If you notice water running directly from the supply line or forming puddles around the appliances, it may come from a loose water connector. Sometimes you may have to get a new connector or a whole set of taps if the connector becomes loose. We do have a range of tap products to choose from, click here to view them.
- Fixtures such as a faucet directly connected to the water supply may have developed cracks. Sometimes, it is caused by physical impact such as someone tripping and catching themselves on the faucet. It can also occur out of sight (like under a sink) due to repeated items being forced into the cupboard. Click here to view our range of tap products.
- Faulty seal may cause pipe leak. When appliances are installed, a contractor places rubber sealant around any connections to keep everything watertight. Over some time, the sealing may degrade leading to water leaking.
